Already posted this on Facebook, but I thought I’d share here too. This photo of me (and my beautiful mother) was taken on March 24th, 1991, the day after a family friends’ pitbull bit into my face and almost tore it completely off. I was two months shy of my 5th birthday. Between then and age 10, I underwent 5+ facial reconstruction surgeries.
I never developed a fear of dogs or a prejudice towards pitbulls. I love all dogs, but have a special place in my heart for one of the most highly misunderstood canines. I love them so much and hurt so greatly when.I hear about atrocities committed against them by vile, brutal human beings.
Among many other things, my face is a symbol of the consequences of pitbull mistreatment and what can happem when you poorly raising your dog. Bonzo, the pitbull who attacked me, lived his whole life chained outside in his owners’ backyard. Sometimes I wish I could go back and raise him properly and treat him with the love ans affection he deserved. But I would never be the same person I am today, let alone have the convictions I carry about dogs and pitbulls.
